Licence agreement (EULA)

This is a translation for convenience. Truffle is sold from Germany, and the German version is the binding one. Where the two differ, the German text applies.

Version of 29 August 2026. Applies to all licences purchased from that day on. You can read, save and print this text before buying; it does not change for a licence once purchased.

The short version. You pay once and may use Truffle indefinitely on up to three installations. Truffle confirms your licence regularly with our licence server; without confirmation it keeps working in a restricted mode after three days until it reconnects — reading and undoing always work. Truffle writes only what you confirm, backs up the original values first and logs every change. We are liable as the law provides; for data loss, to the extent an ordinary backup would have prevented it. Everything is spelled out below.

1. Subject and parties

This licence agreement governs the use of the program Truffle for macOS (“Truffle”). The licensor is [FIRST NAME LAST NAME], address as in the legal notice (“we”). The licensee is you — as a consumer or as a business.

The licence is purchased through Lemon Squeezy, LLC (United States). Lemon Squeezy acts as the seller, takes the payment, issues the invoice, remits VAT and provides the withdrawal instructions; its terms apply to the purchase. You receive the licence key by e-mail after the purchase. This licence agreement governs what you may do with Truffle and what we owe you.

You accept this agreement by activating Truffle with a licence key. The demo version may be used without activation within the limits of section 3.

2. Licence

With the purchase you receive a perpetual, non-exclusive right to use Truffle for private and professional purposes. There is no subscription, no recurring cost and no user account with us.

The licence key may be active on up to three installations at the same time. An installation is one macOS user account on one Mac; two activated user accounts on the same Mac count as two installations. You can move to another Mac at any time: via “Deactivate” in the settings or — even if the old Mac is no longer reachable — via the device list that Truffle shows when you activate on a further device.

The licence key is assigned to you. You may not publish it, pass it on to third parties, or rent, lend or sublicense Truffle.

Transfer. You may transfer the licence once, permanently and as a whole, to another person if you deactivate all your installations beforehand, keep no copy of the licence key, and the acquirer accepts this agreement. Please notify us of the transfer at the address in the legal notice; from then on the acquirer is the licensee. The licence cannot be split.

You may not modify or reverse-engineer Truffle or circumvent the licence confirmation described in section 4, except where §§ 69d and 69e of the German Copyright Act or section 10 (LGPL) expressly permit otherwise.

3. Demo version

Truffle can be used without a licence key: it analyses up to 100 tracks and writes changes to up to 20 tracks. These limits apply per track and are not reset. Demo and full version are the same program; the key lifts the limits. The demo version makes no contact with our licence server.

4. Online licence confirmation — the technical protection measure

Truffle is protected against unauthorised use by an online confirmation. Because it affects how a program you have bought once behaves, we describe it here in full and also state it on the pricing page before purchase. On activation you confirm it separately by ticking a box; it is thereby expressly and separately agreed (§ 327h BGB) and part of the contract.

Activation. On activation Truffle generates a device key pair on your Mac — in the Secure Enclave where possible, from which the private part cannot leave the device — and registers the device together with your licence key at our licence server (lizenz.truffle-app.com). The server issues a signed licence token, normally valid for 72 hours.

Confirmation. From then on Truffle confirms the licence regularly in the background — about every 30 minutes, at launch, when the Mac wakes, before larger operations and on quit. Each confirmation extends the token’s validity; it is therefore enough for your Mac to be online once every three days. Which data is transmitted is set out in section 4 of the privacy notice; the contents of your library are not part of it.

Without a connection. If there is no connection, Truffle keeps working without restriction on the existing token. When the token expires — that is, after three days without confirmation — Truffle switches to restricted mode: analysing, applying and all other write operations are then locked. Reading, searching, playback, the duplicates view, the history, undo, “Restore original” and deleting remain available — so everything Truffle has ever written can be undone even without a connection. Demo quotas are not consumed in this state. As soon as Truffle reaches the licence server again, the full version is back immediately, without any action on your part.

One session. Per licence, Truffle runs on one device at a time. If you launch it on a second activated device, it asks whether you want to continue there; if you confirm, the first device switches to restricted mode at its next confirmation until you take the session back there. One after the other, you can use all three installations freely.

Minimum version. If a version of Truffle has a serious security vulnerability, or its protection has been circumvented, we may exclude it from confirmation. Truffle normally warns you at launch at least 30 days in advance; in that case the current version is available to download free of charge. A minimum version never requires a newer macOS or a different processor architecture than the version it replaces: if Truffle runs on your Mac, so does the version we require.

Outages of our server. For outages we keep a signed emergency document that Truffle loads when needed from truffle-app.com and from a second address embedded in the program, and which extends the validity of the confirmation. You need not do anything.

If we ever shut the licence server down. Your right of use is perpetual and does not depend on our server continuing to exist. Should we permanently discontinue the licence server, we will first activate all activated installations permanently and publish a signed document that lets later installations too verify your licence key without a server and activate permanently — then without device limit and without session restriction. Your licence therefore remains usable indefinitely, including on a Mac you buy later.

Abuse detection. The licence server recognises signs of a shared key or a modified program. The consequence is at most a shorter confirmation validity or temporarily no activation of further devices — never an automatic withdrawal of the licence. A withdrawal happens only under section 11.

5. What Truffle does — agreed characteristics

Truffle reads the metadata of your music from Apple Music/iTunes, from folders of your choosing or from an exported rekordbox collection, proposes corrections and additions, and writes them only once you confirm the individual fields. Before the first change to a track it backs up that track’s original tags; every change is logged and can be reverted individually.

For its proposals Truffle queries third-party catalogues and services (Apple/iTunes Search, MusicBrainz, Cover Art Archive, Deezer, Beatport, a web lookup, and Apple’s audio recognition). These services are not part of Truffle; their availability, response time and response quality are not part of the agreed characteristics. If a service fails or changes its interface, Truffle continues with the others; there is no entitlement to any particular source. Whether a proposal fits your track is your decision — Truffle shows its evidence but does not decide for you.

Truffle never writes into rekordbox’s database; cues, beatgrids, playlists and ratings there remain untouched. Tempo and key as tags in audio files are written only if you expressly confirm the respective field.

System requirements: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel; an internet connection for activation, licence confirmation and the catalogue queries.

Example figures, measurements and screen renderings on the website describe one specific example library; your results depend on your own collection.

6. Updates

We provide security updates until at least December 2031. This covers the fixing of security vulnerabilities; new features are not owed but are provided at our discretion.

We make updates available for download at truffle-app.com. Truffle checks at launch and once a day, via the Sparkle update module at download.truffle-app.com, whether a new version is available; in addition the licence server names the current version with every confirmation. If there is one, Truffle shows it to you, stating what the update fixes and what happens if you do not install it. Nothing is downloaded or installed until you have confirmed it; installing is voluntary, and every update is signed by us and notarised by Apple.

Independently of the period above, the support period stated on the Security page applies: five years from the day a version was last offered for download.

If you do not install an update announced in this way within 30 days, we are not liable for a defect that results solely from the absence of that update — unless the installation failed because of faulty instructions from us (§ 327f (2) BGB).

7. Your part

Truffle writes into your library and into your audio files. So that this happens without loss, we ask three things of you:

This cooperation is the basis of the liability provision in section 9.

8. Warranty

Towards consumers, defects in Truffle are governed by the statutory provisions on digital products (§§ 327 et seq. BGB) without restriction. Please report a defect to the address given in the legal notice and describe what happens and what you expected; the remedy is usually an updated version.

Towards businesses, claims for defects become time-barred twelve months after provision; the remedy is, at our option, a fix or an updated version. Liability under section 9 remains unaffected.

9. Liability

  1. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, for fraudulent concealment of a defect, and to the extent we have given a guarantee.
  2. For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation — an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely. In that case liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract.
  3. For loss of data, within no. 2, we are liable only up to the effort that would have been required to restore the data with regular and proper backups as described in section 7.
  4. Any further liability is excluded. Nos. 1 to 3 also apply to the liability of our legal representatives and agents, and to all claims regardless of their legal basis.
  5. We accept no liability for the content, availability or accuracy of the third-party services named in section 5; they are not part of our performance.

10. Third-party software

Truffle contains components under free licences, including TagLib (Mozilla Public License 1.1, individual files LGPL 2.1), utfcpp (Boost Software License), NumPy (BSD) and Python (PSF licence). The complete notices and licence texts are in the program’s “About Truffle” window. The licence terms of these components apply alongside this agreement.

Offer under LGPL 2.1, section 6. You may modify the parts of TagLib that are under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1 and relink Truffle with the modified library; reverse engineering for debugging such modifications is permitted to that extent. To make this possible, on request to the address in the legal notice we will provide, for three years from your purchase, the object files of Truffle needed for relinking together with relinking instructions — free of charge as a download, or on a data carrier at cost. An e-mail to mail@truffle-app.com is enough.

11. Term and termination

The licence is perpetual. You may stop using it at any time by deactivating your installations and deleting Truffle.

If a purchase is refunded under the seller’s terms — for instance after a withdrawal — the licence ends; the licence key is revoked at the licence server, and Truffle returns to the demo version.

In the event of a material breach of this agreement — in particular passing on or publishing the licence key, or circumventing the licence confirmation — we may terminate the licence, and in the case of a curable breach only after a warning with a reasonable deadline. On termination the right of use ends; your data, backups and history remain on your Mac and can still be read and reverted with the demo version.

12. Final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another state, the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of that state remain unaffected (Art. 6 (2) of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008).

If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, or if you are a business without a general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this agreement is our registered seat. For consumers the statutory places of jurisdiction apply.

The contract language is German. The English version of this agreement serves understanding; in case of discrepancies the German version prevails.

Changes to this agreement apply only to licences purchased after the change. Your licence is governed by the version published at the time of your purchase.

We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. A right of withdrawal for the purchase exists as set out in the seller’s withdrawal instructions.

Should any provision of this agreement be invalid, the remainder stays in force; the statutory provision replaces the invalid one.
